Things to Know
- You must access Workday to complete your benefits enrollment within the open enrollment timeframe or within 31 days of becoming a full-time employee.
- Please remember to add your Social Security number and the Social Security numbers of your dependents during enrollment.
- If applicable, you will receive new ID cards and see new payroll deductions on your paycheck. Be sure to verify deductions on your paycheck stub.
- Once you enroll in benefits as a newly eligible employee, your next opportunity to make changes or updates will be during the annual open enrollment period, unless you experience a qualifying life event.
Qualifying Life Events
Once you enroll in benefits, your elections stay in effect through the plan year, until the next annual enrollment. Open enrollment is your annual opportunity to make changes to your benefits unless you experience a qualifying event. Qualifying events include (but are not limited to):
- Marriage
- Divorce or legal separation
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Death
- Termination of employment for you or your spouse, resulting in loss of coverage
- Reduction of hours worked by you or your spouse, resulting in loss of coverage
The IRS requires that you make changes to your coverage within 31 days of your qualifying life event. You’ll need to provide proof of the event, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, birth certificate or loss-of-coverage letter.
Instructions on how to initiate a Qualifying Life Event benefits change in Workday can be found here.
